Billy Tsakiris - A man with a killer taco, and big dream.
Billy doesn't like the spotlight, but if his food were on the red carpet, the paparazzi flash would blind you. He grew up working in restaurants with his father and Mama Katie, where he acquired a love for his family's recipes. He learned to cook authentic south of the border cuisine made to order with the freshest ingredients.
The name "Mixteca" was given to him by Mama Katie who owned restaurants ending with "teca". She said that if she could do it all again, she would name all of her restaurants Mixteca Mexican Food, so Billy is carrying out her vision and legacy, preparing food made with pride and passion.
Billy has been operating his own restarants for 30 years. He was raised in Phoenix, lives locally and owns and manages Mixteca at 67th Avenue and Bell Road. Billy has two adult children, Matthew and Nathan.
Billy is a hands-on owner and you will see him around the restaurant greeting patrons and working in the kitchen, where he oversees your food preparation like a mother hen.
Billy started Mixteca at 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road in 1987 as a take-out only restaurant. A second location was started 59th Avenue and Thomas and then a third at 43rd Avenue and Dunlap. Those locations have since been sold and the only place you can get the "Mixteca" experience is at our Bell Road location, which was opened on November 21st, 2004.
The Mixteca Mexican Food philosophy is rich in family history and values. All of our choice meats are fresh, never frozen. Our fresh, complimentary chips and salsa bar is a fan favorite ... our prep cooks start making the fresh pico de gallo, salsas and sauces at the crack of dawn each morning.
Great food should be enjoyed with good friends. Which is why Billy's vision was to recreate the feel and fun of a Baja Mexican cantina, with live entertaiment on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights on our wraparound patio.
